What the extension does
LinkPreview reads the real tags of the tab you have open, so it also works on staging sites, localhost and pages behind a login, where an online checker can’t reach.
Check any page in one click
Click the icon to see the page’s title, description, og:image and twitter:card, with a warning when a title or description runs too long or an image is too small.
Copy the fix
Every issue comes with the exact tag to paste. Copy all tags gives you a complete, escaped set of head tags for the page.
Try changes before you ship
Open Edit to try a new title, description or image and watch the preview update as you type. Nothing on the page itself changes.
See the issue count on the icon
After a check, the toolbar icon shows how many tags need work on that page, and the count clears when you go to another page.
Chrome extension FAQ
Quick answers about what the extension checks, what it can see and what it costs.
Is the LinkPreview extension free?
Yes. It’s free, needs no account and has no paid plan.
Does it work on localhost and staging sites?
Yes. It reads the meta tags from the tab you have open, so it works on local builds, password-protected staging sites and pages behind a login.
What data does the extension collect?
None. Every check runs on your device, nothing is sent to LinkPreview or anyone else, and there are no analytics. The only request it makes is loading the page’s own preview image, to measure its size.
Which tags does it check?
The title and meta description length, og:title, og:description, og:image size and aspect ratio, twitter:card, the canonical URL and og:url, and the favicon.
How is it different from the online meta tag checker?
The online checker fetches a public URL. The extension reads the page in your browser, so it also sees pages that aren’t public yet. Full check in the popup opens the online checker with the page filled in.
