Twitter Card Validator

X removed its own validator, so check your card here. Paste your page HTML to test every twitter: tag, see the card X shows, and copy fixed tags.

How to fix your X card

X reads twitter: tags first and falls back to your Open Graph tags. Most broken cards come down to one of these four things.

Set twitter:card to summary_large_image

Without it, X can fall back to a small summary card with a square thumbnail. summary_large_image shows the full-width 2:1 image, which gets far more attention in the feed.

Use an absolute HTTPS image URL

twitter:image (or og:image) must be a full URL that starts with https://, is publicly reachable and is under 5 MB. Relative paths and images behind a login won’t load.

Add twitter:image:alt

Alt text describes the image for people using screen readers, in up to 420 characters. It’s optional, but X reads it, and it costs one line.

Get X to show the new card

X caches cards for about a week and has no refresh button. Add a query string like ?v=2 to the link to get a fresh card, then check the other platforms with the meta tag checker. For LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack and the rest, see the refresh guide.

Twitter card validator FAQ

Quick answers about X cards, twitter: tags and the old validator.

What happened to the Twitter Card Validator?

X removed the preview from its Card Validator in 2022, and the page now sends you to a login screen. This tool replaces it: it reads the same tags X does and shows the card they produce.

Which tags does an X card need?

twitter:card is required. X then reads twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image, and uses og:title, og:description and og:image when those are missing. twitter:site and twitter:image:alt are optional.

Why isn’t my X card showing an image?

Usually the image URL is relative, blocked by robots.txt, behind a login or too large, or the card type is summary instead of summary_large_image. X also caches cards, so test with ?v=2 on the link.

Why paste HTML instead of a URL?

Pasting the HTML lets the validator read every twitter: tag exactly as written. A URL check shows the card X builds from the page’s Open Graph tags, which is what X falls back to.

Is this Twitter card validator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no login, and the HTML you paste never leaves your device.
