At 629 KB it's over WhatsApp's 600 KB limit, so WhatsApp may show the link without an image. Compress it to under 600 KB.
The dimensions work on every platform. Keep text away from the edges, because X trims the image to 2:1.

Open Graph image sizes for every platform

Use 1200 × 630 pixels at a 1.91:1 ratio and keep the file under 1 MB. That one image works on every major platform. These are the limits each one publishes.

Use 1200 × 630 pixels

It’s the size Facebook and LinkedIn ask for, and X trims it to 2:1 with only a few pixels lost. Smaller images look soft on retina screens, and LinkedIn shows anything under 401 px wide as a small thumbnail.

Keep the file under 600 KB if you can

Facebook allows 8 MB and X allows 5 MB, but WhatsApp drops the large preview for images over about 600 KB. A JPG or WebP at 80% quality usually lands well under that.

Keep text and logos away from the edges

X crops to 2:1, chat apps can crop to a square, and every platform rounds the corners. Leave about 60 px of margin on each side so nothing important gets cut.

Set the width and height tags

Add og:image:width and og:image:height so platforms can draw the card before the image downloads. The meta tag generator writes them for you, and the meta tag checker shows the live result.

OG image size FAQ

Quick answers about Open Graph image sizes, ratios and file limits.

What is the best OG image size?

1200 × 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. It’s the size Facebook recommends, it meets LinkedIn’s 1200 × 627 minimum, and X shows it as a large card with only a small crop.

What size is a Twitter / X card image?

A summary_large_image card shows the image at 2:1, so use 1200 × 628 or 1200 × 630 pixels, at least 300 × 157 and under 5 MB. The small summary card uses a square image of at least 144 × 144.

Why is my OG image cropped?

Each platform has its own frame. If your image isn’t close to 1.91:1, the platform trims the sides or the top and bottom to fit. The checker shows how much gets cut on each platform.

What is the maximum OG image file size?

Facebook allows 8 MB, LinkedIn and X 5 MB, and WhatsApp only shows the large preview under about 600 KB. Aim for under 1 MB so crawlers fetch it quickly.

Is my uploaded image stored?

No. Uploaded images are read in your browser and never leave your device. When you paste a page URL, the page is fetched only to read its og:image tag.
